BORN to be WILD - Giving ill, injured or orphaned wildlife a second chance.
Thanks for visiting!

It all began when I became the de facto mom of a day old fawn after it was nearly killed on the Holberg logging road found June 9, 2011 moments before a grader would have run it over.  First seen the baby doe who we called "bella" on Facebook and offered a helping hand to the family.  Turns out our pretty doe bella is a boy and renamed "Bieber" aka "99cents" cause he wasnt quite a buck yet :).

I learned alot while Bieber was in my care such as sleep deprivition, like how can one animal go potty so often, how high they can jump, how loud they can cry, how nasty deer ticks can be but mostly how fatal imprinting a wild animal is.   I could have potentially killed this little fawn with kindness having him dependant on human interaction instead of other deer. I called the "deer rehabilitator" in Courtney a former CO officer who works with all the wildlife centers who had 14 fawns ready to release and Bieber made 15  :)  He has a one acre patch of land out back of his house with a pond that the fawns start in.  After deer are weaned aprox 12wks, gates open up and they are realeased into a 2acre patch and finally the last gates open up and they're free to go but some never leave, as he feeds them all winter and spring till his next bunch of fawns appear late May early June :)

All i knew is that this was my calling in life and we needed a center here so I contacted Robin Campbell founder of NIWRA in Errington since '85 who was all for opening up a division of his facility here on the Northern tip of Vancouver Island where we interact with wildlife on a daily basis.

Born to be Wild will be a non-profit organization and a division of the North Island Recovery Center from Errington, working along side Dr Michael Paul from the NI Veterinary Hospital, plus trained volunteers who will posses expert knowledge about the species, including natural history, nutritional requirements, behavioral issues, caging considerations, assess appropriate realease habitats and the proper timing for release back to the wild or sadly if a patient has critical injuries or illness that prevents recovery or survival in the wild, rehabiltators help end the animals suffering through humane euthanasia.

Location:
Our centers proposed site is beside Municipal Pound on Pioneer Road along side Dr Michael Pauls NI Veterinarian Hospital.
Application for crown land is being processed.

Hours:

Our animal drop off center will be open 365 days of the year for citizens, RCMP & or CO's of the Triport area and beyond as a telephone contact / emergency or help for any and all animal rescue, 24hrs a day.
